What you get

One email every other Sunday morning. Each edition takes three details from recent shows and gives each one a short paragraph: what you are looking at, what it connects to, and why it matters now. Then a link to the full story if there is one, so the letter stands on its own and the site gives you more if you want it.

No daily digest, no roundup of everything, no sponsored picks. If a fortnight has nothing worth your Sunday, we skip it and say so.

  1. Detail 01Velcro, embroidered. At Prada, the scratchy strip that holds a wrap skirt shut became the base for crystal embroidery. Read the story
  2. Detail 02 · the full readA bodice made on a bra-cup line. The detail Issey Miyake's Cocoon Body bodices were never cut: no pattern pieces, no seams, no darts. Fibre was sprayed onto a mould carried by a robot arm, on a machine Wacoal already uses for bra cups. The mould came from a 3D scan of a dressed, wetted torso, so the bodice keeps the folds of a garment worn once, then frozen.
The connection The collection is called Figure of Ma, the space between a body and the cloth around it. The house has chased that idea for decades, from pleats set after a garment is sewn to clothes that begin as one piece of cloth. Cocoon Body puts the same thinking through an industrial machine.
Why now Most fashion tech looks like a lab prototype. This comes from a lingerie line that already runs. If machines like this spread, the draping stays handmade and becomes the master copy, and the garment becomes its cast. Read the story
  3. Detail 03Gold, then black. Vaccarello's last Saint Laurent show reversed a 1991 finale, ten days before Kering confirmed his exit. Read the story
