About

What we do

Read the Fold teaches you how to look at fashion. Every story starts with one detail and asks three questions.

  1. 01 · The detailWhat fastening, fabric, silhouette, accessory or construction deserves a closer look?
  2. 02 · The connectionWhat does it reference: an archive, an artwork, a technique, a moment in culture?
  3. 03 · Why nowWhy does that choice matter this season?

We write for fashion curious people who want informed analysis without needing to work in the industry. We explain the technical terms and skip the jargon.

Five sections. News: what just happened, and what it changes. Shows: collections and runway moments, look by look. Trends: the data backed trend book, our own counts across the shows and what comes next for 2027 and 2028. Craft: how clothes are made, from materials and construction to new machines. Culture: why we wear what we wear.

Recurring formats: The Detail, Then / Now, How It's Made, The Fold's Read and The Superlatives.

The editor

The Editor writes and edits every story on Read the Fold.

Trained in fashion business and entrepreneurship, with a background in luxury houses.

The editor is anonymous on purpose. No face, no name: the clothes come first.

The editor's interests sit where making meets meaning: construction you can see, closures and fastenings, fabrics that pretend to be something else, the archive a designer is quoting, and show invitations that give away the plot before the first look.

What earns a detail a story: it has to change how you read the whole garment. A crystal covered strip of Velcro, a bodice moulded instead of cut, a skirt frame worn on the outside. If a detail only decorates, it gets a caption. If it explains the collection, it gets the page.
